Some models actually get away with just doing these things and become successful, but 99% of them don’t. If you in that 99%, you are not alone (obviously), but this just means you need to know what to change, how to change, and how to stand out amongst everyone else. There is a lot of beauty out there in everyone, but most people never have a chance to show off their beauty. You can be one of them.Remember these 4 simple rules and follow them…
Rule #1: Market Yourself – Marketing Author Rob Walling says, “Knowing how to market yourself will do more for your earnings and reputation than becoming better at what you do.” Read this over to yourself a couple of times because we know it’s hard to believe.
Now think about the Heidi Klums, Gisele Bundchuns and Tyra Banks of the world. There are a lot of models out there that make more money than you and are more successful than you. Who do you admire most? Do you think they started out prettier than you? Did they just happen to be discovered at the right time and place? OR was it that they went out there and promoted themselves in every way possible? You already know the answer to this. It could be all of the above, but it’s most likely not. We know this is a hard fact to accept especially for anyone that is new to the modeling industry and you think that beauty or being in the right place at the right time or training will help you achieve your dreams. Unfortunately it’s not enough. You need to make yourself stand out.
Rule #2: Start Now – What are you waiting for? Setting up a marketing campaign takes time. There are a lot of free things you can do, like building up your social media reputation through blogs, Facebook, Twitter or MySpace. This will work and it’s absolutely necessary, but it will take time and maybe even years. You should be starting first by taking advantage of the power of the Internet through a site where you have the control. A personal website is your ticket to gaining more exposure quickly. Right now you could be saying to yourself, “yes, I should do that, but I will do it later.” You can wait, but while you are waiting, someone else is making moves.
Rule #3: Stand Out – “If you have an exceptional talent, market yourself through exceptional means.” It’s not enough to have a CarbonMade site, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, or any other free exposure account any more. You need something that makes you stand out amongst the millions of people that want to be models. You have to make your blog, website, and YOU interesting to the point that someone will actually want to read it. It’s not just about telling people about your life or how beautiful you are. Shed knowledge on topics that you know about that someone else may not. They will remember you because you are different. Then mail out those podcasts or links to anyone that might be remotely interested. This will make yourself seem more worthwhile. Other forms of marketing is through social networks (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter) or video links (YouTube) or come up with something new. The goal of any marketing is to get people “know, like, and trust you.” If you sound like everyone else, why would they trust you?
Rule #4: Be Professional – If you want to be a professional, you need to act like one. In the competitive modeling world, agencies and their clients want to make sure that whoever they work with is a professional. This is not just about arriving to work on time and not being hungover. This means being someone who understands that modeling is a profession in itself. It is not a career you take lightly or just do for fun. You either want to take yourself to the next level in modeling or you don’t.
Also, if your Facebook, Twitter or MySpace page is your website, than you are not putting your best foot forward. Having a website helps you reach more people worldwide. Along with your hard copy resume, by sending your website, you show your potential employers how serious you are. It shows you mean business. Even if you aren’t ready to get serious about working as a model full time, someday you may be and you may become famous. If you do, it would be terrible if someone took your name domain. These are 4 simple rules. Not easy, but simple. If you want to work your way up to, then it will take that effort in marketing yourself in innovative ways. Let us help take you to the next level! |
